Since the introduction of eCitizen online self-service portal, the registration of businesses in Kenya has become stress-free and quicker. It’s now easier for one to do a name search, then eventually register their business without difficulty.
In my post today, I am going to outline a comprehensive step-step procedure that will enable you register your business.
1. Account Creation.
In order to use the eCitizen online platform, you must be registered first. The procedure is quite simple as you only need our ID card number, your name, email address (optional) and a secret password to get started.
2. Name search
After logging in, click on Make Application at the top left. In the next screen, click on Name Search and Reservation. It will then take you to a section where you will click on a blue button labeled Apply Now. Remember this service requires a fee of Ksh. 150/= to be paid via m-Pesa. Kindly make sure you have about ksh. 200/= in your phone before proceeding.
Select the business type, i.e Business Name, Foreign Company, Limited by Guarantee, Limited Liability Partnership, Private Limited or Public Limited.
Fill in the preferred name of your Business, and add a special instruction (if any). Fill in the description of your business name and click ‘Continue’.
Review your details and check the small box to confirm, and click Finish.
Choose your preferred payment method, and the system will generate a unique account number, for you to complete payment.
This process normally takes about 24 hours, but may take more depending on the workload. If the business name gets rejected, you will have to repeat the process until your preferred name is accepted. If you are lucky enough to pass the name search, click on this link for information on how to register your business.
